Suffice it to say, The last works of Lee Alexander McQueen are some of the most wondrous, evocative, elegant and imaginative works in his marvelous -though tragically short- career.

I had the great fortune of being led on a little field trip to Alya’s shop, A.B.K., last fall on en route to the New Amsterdam market.. [And its taken me this long to get her beautfiul shop & story posted on the Blog. But hey, I am a working girl too!!]
The first amazing fact about Alya Kazakevich is the she is a fearless entrepreneur. Second- she is an absolute talent when it comes to the leather work she so lovingly crafts, with her very own hands, in her Atelier in the Lower East Side- Henry St. to be exact.

Alya and Lindsay taking shop among antique lasts, plants and beautiful hand-made shoes, bags and belts.. with the work table right there in the middle.

I want one of just about everything, and this is one of my favorites– indeed, its an actual, good-looking way to cart a laptop around. Or files, portfolios etc.. She’s a genius, that girl.

For more info go the A.B.K. site or visit the shop at 105 Henry St. Nyc

TenOverSix has done it again.. These little diddies are too amazing!

I came across this art perusing the site Fine Grime, based out of the U.K. My friend Sylvia Ji is represented by this gallery also- its a great roster of artists. This print is by Carles Gomila..It’s perfectly sweet and melancholy, I think…And of course, love the title.

Rest in peace Mark Linkous………………………………………………………………………………..

I loved the way the raindrops were only gathered on the one window… ah the world works in mysterious ways.

I just love the irreverent nature of Banksy’s art- All of it.

Check out his F-You version of a shop-able website..
I had the pleasure of Gallery hopping with my Bestie, Leslie last weekend. We spent a fantastic day meandering Soho and in particular, checking out the Brucennial show. One of my favorite ladies, ‘Shoppy’ had some of her beautiful work in the show along with this piece we loved by Ned & Aya Rosen..
Shoppy’s piece is the round orange/black fuzzy little piece of amazingness with hair and wool…
This pieces was a highlight. If you dare to press the ‘flush’ handle, it lights up and makes a shocking bell- ringing-buzz [not to ruin the fun, but even if you do know what's going to happen, go ahead and do it!]
A couple other pieces I liked, the painting above by Kate Pane and these weird abstract light box/ mixed media works by Ivan Goodman.
Check out the gallery at 350 West Broadway or online at the Brucennial official website.
Its difficult to sum up how intense, beautiful and affecting this event was for me. For the opening act, Buddhist monks played traditional instruments filling the layer cake-like Music hall with their resonant chants which was pure glory.

Then following this Beautiful, Spiritual and Traditional performance was a line up of two of the most revered Punk Rockers in history- Iggy Pop & Patti Smith- interspersed with with bouts of celebratory glee from the musicians Gogol Bordello- which literally caused people to spring from their seats dancing and clapping like enraptured gypsies- to Regina Spektor’s heartfelt poetic songs pounded out on a baby grand piano.. I have to quickly mention among them were Bajah & the Dry Eye crew and Jesse Smith who also ruled…

This is my actual ticket which was a gift from Smith & Alisa of Bella Cucina. [Thank you!! ]And a flic of Iggy- from where I was shaking in my boots with utter elation- who was shirt-less and glowing!!
Afterwards Lindsey and I went to the Gotham Hall post-show gathering for food & drinks. We had the tremendous fortune of meeting ‘Dzogchen Khenpo Choga Rinpoche ‘ who’s table we bellied up to and proceeded to enjoy many laughs and glorious tidbits of Tibetan Buddhist wit & wisdom. The best comment of the evening was in relation to the event …’The Absolute truth is we want peace for Tibet. The relative truth is we all enjoy dinner.’ Well put!!
For more information on the TIBET HOUSE please visit their website or the Cultural Center here in New York. They are truly undertaking so worthy an endeavor. The survival of the Tibetan culture depends on recognition of the current struggles they face and deserves the support [from donations to loving thoughts] of every single person on the earth who values the rich cultural identities of our roots as one Worldly Community.
Mockingbirds
This morning
two mockingbirds
in the green field
were spinning and tossing
the white ribbons
of their songs
into the air.
I had nothing
better to do
than listen.
I mean this
seriously.
In Greece,
a long time ago,
an old couple
opened their door
to two strangers
who were,
it soon appeared,
not men at all,
but gods.
It is my favorite story–
how the old couple
had almost nothing to give
but their willingness
to be attentive–
but for this alone
the gods loved them
and blessed them–
when they rose
out of their mortal bodies,
like a million particles of water
from a fountain,
the light
swept into all the corners
of the cottage,
and the old couple,
shaken with understanding,
bowed down–
but still they asked for nothing
but the difficult life
which they had already.
And the gods smiled, as they vanished,
clapping their great wings.
Wherever it was
I was supposed to be
this morning–
whatever it was I said
I would be doing–
I was standing
at the edge of the field–
I was hurrying
through my own soul,
opening its dark doors–
I was leaning out;
I was listening.
