New Hat Party

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

I took my lovely lover to a lovely party. A celebration at New Hat Productions in Santa Monica. Our hostess Darby (thank you Anna) was incredibly sweet and showed us around this beautiful space. I was blown away. These people do great work and it was an inspiration to be there.newhatblog

My Lost weekend Last

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

I did it.  I’m a stupid ass burner. But guess what, it rocked. I mean, where else can jump form a moving space ship, roll onto the dusty desert floor (bottle of whiskey holstered to you leg) while a slowly moving river boat complete with a ‘Orleans brass band plays a dirge in your wake?  No place else.  Its takes allot to get there, physically and emotionally. After talking yourself into the whole debacle, there’s the part where you have to get over all the hippieshit, whiskey helps.  All kidding aside, there was a moment that moved me to pieces, after I spent two days hating on it, I went to see the the “temple” burn, and what I found there: 40,000+ people being so silent you could hear the wood hiss. That was amazing and restored my faith in hippie’s and the whole damn world. Soon after that, the space ship picked me up.

Here are my favorite art projects form Burning Man 2009. All hail the Artists

B.M.

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Nope not that BM, the other, I’m going to Burning Man. I feel it is my moral obligation as a west coast resident to cover this event for the blog. Plus, flying in a private plane landing on the playa sounds pretty awesome too. While I’m at it I thought I would share some photo’s of  BM’s past… hmmmmm, recognize anyone??? (oh yes I did)

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

I know, it’s a little late but we did have a beautiful day at the Silverlake Junction this year. Anna picked up some star shades (quite telling).  It was a first time for both of us, even though I have been here for 3 years! Mmmm Margarita’s. And Lucky us, we caught the tail end of the WARPAINT show.blogjunction copy Hope to see Anna out here again soon!

Arcade Fire “Black Mirror”

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Wow. I’m not sure how many of you like great music videos, or great music for that matter.  But when the two come together (not unlike Radio Head) its magic, and inspirational.  I came across this jewel if you haven’t seen it already. Here is a still to wet your pallet.Picture 18

Welcome to the Garden

Monday, July 13th, 2009

About 4 months ago I cleared out small patch of dirt in our concrete yard, complete with views of Downtown L.A. (you could probably spy on it from the roof top of the Standard). It’s my first veggie garden and it looks damn good. The tomato plant is taller then me and I talk to it daily.  A new report says that  woman’s voices ‘helps plants grow faster’ -http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/5602419/Womens-voices-make-plants-grow-faster-finds-Royal-Horticultural-Society.html. Here are the first of many pics from the garden,Watch it bring you to your shun n,n,n,n,,n,n,,n,n,n,,n,n,,n knees, knees.

HappyHappy

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

I only love plastic when it comes in the form of assemblage art. I had the pleasure of meeting this piece by Choi Jeong-Wa, entiled “HappyHappy” (couldn’t agree more) at the LAcma.  I’m sure rainbow loving Sheffield might take a shine to it too.photo2

I’ve been listening to our dear friend A.A. Bondy’s newest album and I’m blown away, as usual.

This guy can write a song. Now I don’t fancy myself a music critic but I do know great song writing when I hear it. Here it is..http://www.myspace.com/aabondy.  L.A. would be that much better if he would just moved here already.

Opa Art Show L.A.

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

It almost killed me but the Opa Art Show was great. It was such an incredible group coming together, including the master all ceremonies…Flash. Van loads came from San Francisco and the music was incredible. Rocco De Luca as well as The Petrojvic Blasting Co. played their hearts out until the break of dawn. We were all so lucky to witness these amazingly talented musicians play for us.

It seems no matter what forsaken American metropolis I end up in, I seem to come into contact with the gypsy souls circling the wagons, lighting the bon fires and playing music until the sun rises… and beyond. As I type this, midnight in Los Angeles, Hungarian Gypsy music doesn’t loft, nor does it waft down through the floorboards into my converted basement oasis, it rants, on level 10, in all its neurotic glory. Don’t get me wrong, I love it, in fact it has somehow made sense of the all the insanity of city living. OPA!

A Lux Heaven

Monday, June 29th, 2009

fine art

I was quite moved by the passing of Lux Interior this year, not even 2 miles from my home in Echo Park. You see, he taught me to dance, I was 13 when I first heard The Cramps, combat boots and a mohawk, I just started twisting my hips and all the boys smiled. He made it so easy, to be sleazy.
Anyhow, in my mourning, I came across this photo of Lux, god he was hot, and it eerily reminded me of this oil painting of a dead sailer, titled “peace after the storm”, by Ferdinand Schauss, 1896. I hope Lux found some of that.
Man,  I would give my left arm for an oil painting of a writhing Lux Interior asphyxiating on a mic cord on stage in the stink of a 1970’s New York- … Heaven.  Then I’d give my right arm to be in Greece with Anna and Bart… armless in Greece.
