you know… you leave new york for a couple short weeks and no one bothers to inform you of the awesome technological advances you’ve been missing.. on your street.

also, i feel if fantasy had to meet reality this would be Atreyu from the Never Ending Storys’ ride.. he’d be all swoopin’ up his lady friend the “chizieldlike princess” and rolling hard in a 2020 Folkor, the good luck SUV ;)

I know I know..

it just took me a week to give proper respect to this thought..

In lieu of recent events I will scroll about the importance of consistency and more than that, the importance the of quality. Whether it’s in regards to a person, a garb-crafter, a cobbler or a favorite restaurant. Be consistent: it is so important.

An acquaintance/friend of many people in the New York community passed this week. When I think of him the word consistent reverberates in my mind.

Dash Snow.. he was one of the first people I met in NYC long before his art star fame. Being a newbie, I wasn’t eloquent in the way of an Irak scene, or “their” unbloomed art scene or with any scene to speak of. I met him on a photo shoot. He was a graffiti artist, I was a make shift model: he in a Malachai-brimmed hat, me suited in the stylist’s garb de jour .

It was a crisp day in 2003. I was 23 he was only 20. Kindest eyes I ever have met, which constantly, for the next six years remained the same. Whether it was a random run in on a Brooklyn street, an art show, a street party, a passing in the sun’s birthing light, late night at Lit, a gala, a bodega run-in… he always wanted to make sure the alright was in fact alright. Consistently sincere… this flowed though his being, his lovers, partners, friends and art and I am sure it will endow his little Secret.

I hope that in the wake of all of the downtown hoopla, and critics being critics we can all remember and respect the constant nature of this artistic renegade and respect what he invoked a generation of degenerates.

While you were blogging..

Snoop Bloggy Blog

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Oh, boy I’m starting to recognize the evaporation of time by means of my last blog entry.. “Who am I?”

Nigh twelve days since I last divulged my true kinfolk with glory and woes from yester year (that’s for Anna, I had to use nigh in a sentence and the whole sentence got all antiquity).

Howbeit, I’ve been quite involved with my new life in the mini Amazon. It’s not really the Amazon. Still, after living in the barren plateau of Chinatown for nearly three years, having a private back yard in the East Village is kinda the same dif.  I’ve also made a few new buddies while traversing my canopy… Let me take this opportunity to introduce YOU:

Senor leopard slug, isn’t he purdy?

Silly leopard slug roach motels are for roaches.

For Halloween, I will dress him up as a Mexican cockroach. I think I’ve always made the association roaches are Latino because of that catchy little La Cucaracha number.

TRANSIENT NATURE

Friday, June 5th, 2009

in a grand attempt to document my incredible inability to stay put i’ve been putting together a little photo project entitled the home.

ihatemyself
i’ve begun revisiting my past domains to capture images. the ideas is, when i finally find the right place to hang my hat , i will have archived all the places i’ve called home.  not only for reference points for my journey but to get a sense how each place transforms my thought while i transform the space  physical.
this image was taken at the most recent apartment i subletted. this picture really embodies the project. beside the obvious beauty, i’m super into the luminous door hauntingly taunting for every door that closes… another opens. this was the 9th apartment i have inhabited i my 7 years in new york.
i moved again two weeks after this was taken.

introduction of inebriation to speed.

shape shifting metal, networking at a nocturnal hour.

he knew he’d met his match when it fit the description to a t.
img_0453_1
now it’s not really my style to get all preachy teachy or new york post. but new
york for all of it’s beauty and inspiration also does a heck of a job reminding
one to keep things in perspective. i happened upon this accident on way to the
bank in chinatown. at 4 am, nearly a week ago,  in a busy intersection the audi
at high speeds pummelled into the side of the suv. for investigation purpose i
assume, the cars have since been pulled off to the side of the street (4 cars
total) left to trigger one’s uncertain mortality.
i walked away from this feeling pissed fricking off about how stupid and
selfish drunk driving is or even reckless thriller seeking driving. i mean we all
belong to someone, how useless to take someones child, friend, lover, mother,
sibling, cousin, aunt, uncle, mentor, husband, wife, niece, nephew out of the
game in vein… frick, it makes me mad. i guess that’s why foundations called
M.A.D.D. exist.

Mosaic Man

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

When first asked to be part of this blog my initial thought was, “who, me? duh.” I’m honored to scrawl down some ideas for the lovely Anna and Kevin. Then as usual, the reality of that ol’ familiar trepidation sets in – “what will I cyber say?” How can I constructively contribute to this site which has a community of rather forward thinking stallions that form the Bing Bang/Sheffield/Kearney awesome-atrocity?

Then boom. The idea of the law of attraction and theory of relativity set in… the same reasons you are attracted to me I am attracted to you.

So here I gizzsoo…

Today my inspiration comes from Mosaic Man. I first was introduced to Jim Powers’ assemblage of shrapnel while watching a documentary about Clayton Patterson called Captured.  I’d never actually met the Man, but have often been totally about-faced by his fragmented kaleidoscopes that are adhered to innumerable façades in the East Village.

In the flurry and cluster of the city that protests the annex of sleep, not surprisingly some of our most comforting labors are not fruitless. Talkin’ ’bout fruits and labour and stuff, our Mosaic Man has confetti’d the East Village’s laden past with a cornucopia of reflective colors for the better part of three decades. With an intricate tapestry of tinted glass and broken mirrors, his craft is much more than decorative art- it utilizes the urban tesserae. It’s a reminder to a community who knows that no matter what the physical, personal or economic climate may be, our “crazy paving” can always be memorialized as a beautiful path to perceiving and preserving the luminescence of one’s own journey.

PS – if you want this dude’s info please comment and let me know. He does it all! Wow. Employing a master dude that does nothing less then maintain the integrity of a community. Count me in-zeeses.
