Meet Ingrid!
From her beginnings as a touring musician to pioneering a rock n' roll camp for girls, Ingrid's journey is marked by resistance, a desire to empower others, and a fearlessness as bold as her iconic red lip. Now, a published author, we caught up with my dear, longtime friend amidst the excitement of the official launch of her memoir, Sun Shining on Morning Snow. A striking and inspiring memoir, Ingrid recounts her experiences navigating the weight of social, cultural, and familial expectations growing up mixed race and queer in America. Without further ado, please meet my darling Ingrid!

A RITUAL FOR GROUNDING, CLARITY, OR ALIGNMENT?
I light incense everyday in my home office and look out at nature as well as photos of my Ma and Nai Nai on my window sill.
WHAT'S YOUR CURRENT USE OF COLOR?
I love wearing black and having a bold red lip, nails, and accent color.

FIRST FAVORITE MAGAZINE (AS IN FROM THE TEEN OR TWEEN YEARS)?
My first favorite magazines were Transworld Snowboarding, Horse Illustrated (if memory serves as an early kid), Vogue and local zines.
WHAT'S YOUR MOST SECRET VICE?
I don't hold secrets! It's not good for our soul energy. But one thing I indulge in is jewelry.
ANYTHING IN YOUR CLOSET YOU STILL HAVE IN ROTATION FROM THE 90S?
I have a few Karl Lagerfeld vintage designs from the 90s and early oughts but they've been procured over recent years! Nothing kept from my teens.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE POEM OR QUOTE THAT STEERS YOU IN GENERAL OR IN TIMES LIKE THIS?
Three quotes stand with me at the moment:
My Ma's go-to phrase: "Don't let the bastards get you down"
"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage." — Anaïs Nin
"The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any." — Alice Walker
WHAT SPICE ARE YOU RUNNING OUT OF?
Za'taar.
WHAT SCENT IS TOPPING YOUR GOOD FEELS FRAGRANCE LIST?
Whatever my wife is wearing! But for me, my go to is LeLabo Thé Noir and Godseye Wild Heart.
"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage."
— Anaïs Nin
IS THERE A SONG OR GENRE OF MUSIC THAT'S GETTING YOU UP AND AT 'EM OR HELPING YOU WIND DOWN?
French 79: Diamond Veins but I love me some Le Tigre, Erase Errata and YYYs.
WILL YOU TELL US YOUR NO. 1 KARAOKE SONG?
There are three! Even though I really am not into Karaoke (as a former musician).
Bangles, Eternal Flame
Roxette, It Must Have Been Love
Lisa Loeb, Stay
CAN YOU SHARE A PARTICULAR EPISODE OF A PODCAST YOU LOVE THAT BLEW YOUR MIND/SHOOK YOUR ROOTS OR INSPIRES YOU TO SHARE AND REVISIT?
Interview with neuroscientist Dr Lisa Mosconi on menopause and hormones.
And, Andrew Garfield's interview on grief with Anderson Cooper All There Is.
IF YOU WERE A GEMSTONE, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU BE?
I'm a Yellow Diamond: Captures the bold light of my voice, my willingness to live fully and visibly, and my creative leadership in the world.

I ASK ALL MY FRIENDS TO SHARE SOMETHING THAT IS PRECIOUS TO THEM. WHAT'S THE OBJECT? HOW DID THIS COME TO BE PRECIOUS TO YOU?
My jaguar lineage ring I inherited from my Nai Nai and Ma — it has diamonds and rubies set in gold and is quite the statement piece. And, my AS prototype engagement ring with a raw pink diamond that has a vein in it. I love that it is such a major part of my love journey with my wife and a transformation journey with my Ma, who finally came around to joining our family after rejecting my queer identity. Lastly, I love my AS chain link necklace and medallions that capture key moments, milestones and travel experiences!
