What are champagne diamonds?
These stones are made in nature, just the same as the white diamond. Champagne diamonds are graded based on their depth of color (traditionally know nas the C scale). Most natural diamonds fall within a range of pale yellow to a cognac or chocolate brown–many jewelers classify all diamonds that fall within that range on the C scale a champagne diamond. Often referred to as “desert diamonds,” champagne diamonds evoke warmth, earthiness, and understated luxury.Champagne diamonds are one of a handful of naturally occurring colored diamonds due to nitrogen trapped in the stone during the diamond's formation. The more nitrogen trapped, the more intense the color. For our perfect champagne diamonds, we take hue and color harmony into account as well. A crème soda hued diamond that contains hints of brown and pink is perfectly fitted for a rose gold setting whereas a vanilla bean hue that is slightly more off white looks smashing in yellow gold. The point is, we love that we have the ability to customize our pieces based on the naturally occurring beauty of these stones.
And why does Anna love them so much?
Anna's always been a fan of uniqueness and championing the underdog. When she first started using them in her jewelry in 2007, there simply was not the same demand for them, (which worked out swimmingly for her!). The Diamond District was more than happy for her to take them off their hands. She even used some in her collaboration with Philip Lim, which you can read more about in her Substack. That early fascination helped shape ASJ’s design language. From the very start, champagne diamonds became a signature: appearing in our engagement rings, one-of-a-kind pieces, and heirloom-quality fine jewelry. Their warmth pairs beautifully with our sculptural settings, intentional proportions, and focus on craftsmanship.

Desert Diamonds? We Know Them Well
JANUARY 9, 2026

It’s no secret we here at Anna Sheffield Jewelry–and Anna herself–have been enchanted by Champagne Diamonds for quite some time, (which is to say–long before they were trending!). These beauties truly are an alluring alternative to the traditional brilliant white diamond...and we adore them in all the various shapes and cuts, from modern cuts to antique stones, particularly when set in yellow or rose gold. These stones embody our brand ethos of perfectly imperfect, beauty and authenticity: perhaps they are not status quo in terms of traditional fine jewelry, but we find their distinct, rare, and versatile nature for both fine and ceremonial jewelry gorgeous.
